This is a new section by MCH which is – perhaps – the most ambitious one. We would like to present our visitors a collection of the best African Cichlid Tanks kept all over the world. Thus, we ask all our visitors to submit photos of their tanks to MCH and help us create a reference guide for other hobbyists. This will not be a place to exhibit just any tank. It will be a place to exhibit tanks that were found to be very interesting and could serve either as a positive or a negative example. We have prepared a list of parameters and preset scores which will be the same for all entries.
To submit your tank you need to send us 2-3 good quality photos and some information about your tank. We need to know the size of the tank, the water parameters (at least pH, KH, GH), size and frequency of water changes, a list of inhabitants, filtration data, lighting data, aquascape information, age of tank, and a brief note that may clarify some things not visible in the picture you submit.
Tanks kept by women will have a higher priority. There are some of them out there and we want to here more from them.
There are some rules to be followed – please take a moment to read them :
You may submit any kind of tank you wish. However, tanks housing East African Cichlids and especially cichlids from Lake Malawi will have a higher priority. Tanks housing hybrids or irrelevant species will not be considered. All fish and plants present in any submitted tank should be listed by their scientific names. The number and size of fishes should be clearly stated. You can use the tanks shown in the Gallery as an example of presentation. Tanks with fluorescent gravel, plastic decoration items or bare glass bottom will not be considered. The jury has the right to consult an outside expert in order to conclude if the particular setup, water parameters and fish composition is correct or not. The name of the expert will not be disclosed.
MCH will take its time to examine your submission and you may be contacted to submit more information or clarify some things. A special report will be prepared for your tank, in which several parameters will be evaluated (the same for all tanks) and an overall score will be generated. The overall score along will all the comments will be presented in the same page with your tank and will be visible to all visitors. Please note that negative comments may also appear.
The MCH comments will be sent to the tank owner who will have the option of either accepting them or denying publication of his tanks. In this case, the photos and other data submitted will remain his property and will not be used by MCH for any other reason.
MCH verdict will be final and not negotiable. Once published online, the owner of the tank may submit a newer picture of his tank and ask for a re-evaluation and rating of his / her tank. For your information, the maximum possible rating is 100.
When submitting your tanks, you must go for the highest possible definition. All submissions will have to be in JPEG or JPG format and there is no size limitation. However we feel that 500 KB is a reasonable maximum size. The pictures will be eventually resized to fit our pages and allow for descent download time. The full pictures will be used for the evaluation.
Finally, when sending your submission, please include your full name, e-mail address and (if you have one) your website address. All submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and it would be nice if you filled the subject line with the word "gallery".
