| The Quati/Coati. This cool, curious fellow (was he, actually, the leader of the group?) all of a sudden came out of the bush, close to the waterfall ... it’s a Coati.
Scientific name: Nasua nasua. English name: Coati. Brazilian name: Quati Order: Carnivora. Family: Procyonidae. Habitat: south American tropical forests. Distribution: South America. Other remarks: Commonly found in “replanted” forests, alone or in groups (up to 40 individuals). Omnivorous, feeds on meat (small animals), fruits, eggs. Moves easily either at ground (where we found them) and/or on trees. It’s meat is said to be tasty (it is hunted for feeding purposes).
