Holidays in Syros - Part III

by Frank Panis

Once we arrived there, we had a magnificent view over the peaceful bay. Although there was allot of traffic around noon and in the evening (according to Andreas this was due to the presence of a nude beach on the other side of the cliff - of course we were far too busy discussing cichlids, so we didn't pay attention at all to this negligible detail), we were far away from noisy tourists and accompanying loud disco's that are usually found in warm seaside resorts. A nearby taverna served nice Greek dishes that were greatly appreciated by us! Of course Johnny's announcement that he caught several octopus, also wet our appetite! We were absolutely going to have a good time!

Our small, but cozy Greek cottage near the sea and the rental Peugeot. It made the very steep slope on the last day with 4 persons and the extremely heavy (according to Johnny's comments in the Athens metro) Reclos diving gear on board... wow... my next car should be a Peugeot!!!

We indeed had a very good time! Our days all looked quite the same, but this was exactly what we wanted... a relaxing & stress free holiday without the kids! Hilde and I went shopping in Kini for fruits and bread every morning (remember, the famous Belgian diet!) and George and Johnny immediately went snorkeling. We also went into the water a few times, but most of the times we decided to stay on shore. In the afternoon we all had our siesta and after that, the Reclos family hit the water again for their evening dive. We usually stayed up very late after having a good dinner to discuss all our future fishy plans and the building of more & yet more tanks! Of course the details & sensitive content of these evening discussions aren't mentioned here. Otherwise we wouldn't have anything to say in our future updates. The next photo's should say enough about the passage of these splendid holidays!

George snorkeling in the Delphini bay... The submersible digital camera was always present for shooting nice underwater pictures!

A nice Octopus caught by Johnny and cooked and served with the finest olive oil was simply irresistible! Some fresh bread and cool white wine gave this dish the finishing touch! Fantastique!!!
