Upper
table : GH
values in correlation to the tank (or water change) volume -
expressed in Liters.
The green
values express the grams of Calcium Carbonate needed to achieve the
corresponding GH value for that specific volume. You should look at
the GH column and find the GH value you have measured for your tank.
Example: We suppose you have found a GH value of 11
degrees. You must go to GH=11
and find the column corresponding to the
water volume you have. For 60
Liters the figure found is 11,2.
So actually you have a total quantity of 11,2
grams of Calcium Carbonate (or
equivalent).
Lower
table. GH raise
in correlation to the tank (or water change) volume - expressed in US
gallons. The orange
values express the grams of Calcium
Carbonate needed to achieve the corresponding GH value for that
specific volume. You have to know the GH value (run a GH test) and
the total water volume in order to use this table. Then you should
look at the GH column. Example: We suppose you have found a GH value
of 11 degrees.
You must go to GH=11
and find the column corresponding to the
water volume you have. For 60
gallons the figure found is 42,41.
So you have a total quantity of 42,41
grams of Calcium Carbonate.
Since
Calcium Carbonate is very slightly soluble in water (it is
characterized as practically insoluble) Calcium Sulfate is used
instead. The ratio of masses is 1.17 (you have to add 1,17 times
more grams of the sulfate compound to get the same GH). I usually
mix calcium sulfate with magnesium sulfate and sodium bicarbonate.
This brings calcium, magnesium and carbonates to the desired
concentrations while sodium and sulfates are also needed to
Africans.
For more information on
these chemicals see here.

of equivalent quantities you can visit
