Peaceful Catfishes - A Myth  part III

An Article by Francesco Zezza & George J. Reclos

After the fight the two catfish are lying next to each other sending the usual but deceiving "peaceful" image. It may take days or weeks before they fight again. When you see them like that you don't realize their territorial nature. Neither can I understand why they become extremely territorial for some time and then spend days lying next to each other !!  However the signs of the fight will take some time to vanish. The strange thing is that the bigger pleco has more serious wounds as compared to the smaller one which has some bruises. Usually the wider fish is the female.

Deceivingly peaceful.

The bigger fish with some lost scales and a bleeding wound. Who said plecos can't cause injuries ? You can also see the wounds one of these fish caused in a male Aulonocara stuartgranti.

The smaller fish has clearly less wounds.
