The authors
cordially wish to thank you all for creating the nice statistics we
get. These figures show that we are going strong. Together
we made the first steps and we hope you will regularly come
back to this site.
The past...
When we started this site it was
Spring. In fact it was April 4, 1999. At that time we barely had 100-150
hits per week. Of course, at that time,
the site contained only 20
pages, very few photos and no articles at all. It was also not
listed in the "Links" section of any other
"fishy" site. The authors were still two (George and
Francesco) and were trying very hard to add something new every
month. The site was still named "George
J. Reclos ~ Aquarium pages"
and it was just "another fishy site".
The Present..
In January 2004, 57 months later, the authors have become four with the addition of Patrizia
in the summer of 99 and Frank in September 2000, while an
ever growing number of Contributors
all over the world has sent in their work, photos, opinions and
articles. The site now consists of more than
1.500
pages, contains more than 5.500
original high quality photos, full description and profiles on
290
species (among them some Mediterranean species not found
elsewhere on the web) and more than 190
original, full length articles. We now get more than
60.000
hits per week. A total of 1.000.000 visitors have visited our site since we
started, they viewed 4.421.000 pages with a total of more than
10.000.000
hits. An amazing 600 GB of information has been downloaded to
your computers from our server. The site was renamed to "Malawi
Cichlid Homepage" in September 99. It
is now reciprocally linked to all important "fishy" sites
and has been awarded some of the most important awards
available. Most important, many people ask the permission to use the
photos and articles for their sites or publications (TFH and FAMA
among them) while it has
been established as one of the best resources for any African Rift Lake
cichlid lover - beginner or not. In January 2001, a new Millennium
started. Malawi Cichlid Homepage has grown too much and we felt it
deserved its own domain name. So, starting February 2001, our
site will be found at www.MalawiCichlidHomepage.com.
Finally, parts of it have already
been translated in Polish and French while (starting May
2002) the site is being (officially) translated on its greatest part
in Dutch and - almost completely - in Greek.
And the
Future..
It seems we have got somewhere. However, all of us are
dedicated to this "job". We love this hobby, and we want
to share our experience with you, the visitor. We continuously
discuss new ideas, new articles, new additions and new
collaborations. Every month all four
of us try our best to add some new photos, articles or information.
Among our future plans are the expansion to other areas of
fishkeeping among them Mediterranean marine tanks, South and Central
American tanks, Planted tanks and Palludariums, Underwater
photography as well as a small section with other (terrestrial)
plants and animals. On top of that, the Italian MCH version will
become a reality. Therefore,
this site is "alive". It grows by the day. With you in
mind.
