The name Datnioides microlepis is not the valid name of the species any more according to BAENSCH Aquarium Atlas. The species belongs to the family COIIDAE (former LOBOTIDAE, "flashers") and first described by Bleeker, 1853. The new and valid name of the species is Coius microlepis.

Datniodes microlepis is a valid name but not for the fish pictured on this page. Now, known as Coius microlepis and will still be referred for a while as Datniodes microlepis, has wider bars and the first bar after the gill plate will connect all the way around the belly of the fish.
