When I built my 3000L
plywood tank, the 1000L glass aquarium had to leave. I sold it to
Patricia, another member of our Belgian cichlid association ABCV.
Of course when you buy a tank from a LFS (local fish shop), it
will be delivered at home and you don't have to worry about the
hard labor of moving it. But we had to move this 170Kg monster by
ourselves. Luckily some members of the association were willing to
help us. They also brought sucker handles that allowed us to get a
better grip on this monster.
Staf thinking...am I really going to lift this beast???
Still in control... Johan is instructing everyone.
I've put out the
kitchen table as a temporary support for the tank. A board of
polystyrene foam was laid underneath the aquarium to prevent
damaging of this precious glass construction. As it is deeper than
high, the tank was tilted on a side to allow it to pass through
the door. Of course I stripped the tank as much as possible to
keep the weight down. Even the lamps were removed.
Johan under the tank as a support...
Almost done...
As soon as we were
outside it was much easier to handle this big boy. We also used
polystyrene boards on every side to protect the tank during the
transport. The same procedure was used in reverse to deliver it to
Patricia, who is extremely happy with her newest tank! We treated
all the helping people with coffee and cake that was eaten with
great relish.
