Most of us keep Mbuna, Aulonocara, Haps or predators. All these fish have more spectacular features like colour, shape and hunting behaviour. Nyassachromis eucinostomus has a relatively dull appearence and is mostly known for it's nest building behaviour.

In the lake these cichlids are found in shallow sandy areas where they feed on plankton in the open water. They build cone-shaped spawning hills on the sand or on the rocks and form breeding colonies. Such colonies looks like a lunar landscape.
Just like Lethrinops they need an aquarium exclusively for them to stand out well. Most other Malawi cichlids are far more agressive what supresses the naturral behaviour of them. They're also best kept in groups of 6-10 fish (at least 4 males) to have the dominant male coloured up all time.
