Discover Mediterranean IV

Like droplets of blue paint on a green background, Chromis chromis juveniles stay motionless over the rocky habitat. Saronikos Gulf, Attika.

Preparing our collection trap. A large hand net (measuring 50x50 cm) is loaded with the remainders of an eaten sea urchin. You then leave the hand net to touch a rocky surface which will have a whole to allow the sea urchin to get a bit deeper. In the photo you can see a Thalassoma pavo already examining the offer. Saronikos Gulf, Attika.

After less than five minutes even larger specimens will enter the net to eat the remainders. Since all natural environments are oligotrophic most animals will never refuse a free meal. And large specimens will not allow small ones to keep it all to themselves. A male and female T.pavo are already in the net and on their way to our tanks. Saronikos Gulf, Attika.
