When Andreas suggested that I visit this petshop in the other side
of Athens I really hesitated. Crossing Athens is hardly my favorite
way to spend my weekend. However I have never been disappointed by
Andreas' suggestions so there I was. A really warm welcome by the
two brothers (Panayiotis and Fotis) who keep the shop and on to the
tanks. A nice planted tank at the entrance - with a bow front glass,
a newly setup marine reef display tank and the usual tanks with the
fish and plants for sale. The people there are knowledgeable, always
ready to ask if in doubt and they passed the "give me a fish now"
test in flying colors. They refused to sell me a fish for a new
marine tank, unless the tank is fully cycled, they offered (correct)
advice, they sold me only the things I would definitely need and in
very good prices. They even have a fish used to cycle marine tanks,
a Scatophagus silver which they "borrow" to their customers - a
bright new idea! Therefore, this place is highly recommended. The
shop is located at 31, Makrygianni street, in Moschato (a 10 minute
walk from the metro station), tel: 9403253. |

Not too many tanks but all of them had healthy fish and
healthy plants - which is the number one thing we, hobbyists, need. There
was a good variety of fish, although no specialization for the African
cichlids (the only minus of this shop). You can see the reef tank at the
right photo (front).

The owners with (one of) their dog(s). They definitely
love pets.. Rule number 2 : never trust a petshop owner who doesn't love
animals !

Yes, they have plants but their plants are from Tropica (DK). All of
them in good shape with the usual "fast fact" cards in each pot.
Right: A photo from their goldfish tank.

Some discus in a tank with plants and the correct pH and water
color. Quite rarely seen here !!

Shots from their two display tanks. Left: Glossostigma
elatinoides in their planted tank. Right: A blue tang in their reef
tank. Since they were not informed that I would take photos all
their tanks were not specially prepared for the photo session! |
